John Makransky of Boston College to give 2014 Trungpa Lecture in Buddhist Studies

Event Description:
Naropa University will host John Makransky of Boston College for the second annual Trungpa Lecture. Professor Makransky will speak on his new applied work on compassion in a lecture titled "Adapting Compassion Training from Tibet: Empowering the Deeper Personhood of Self and Others." Professor Makransky will discuss compassion training, which he has presented to teachers, therapists, social workers, healthcare providers, and social justice activists in diverse settings, including Boston College, Harvard Divinity and Medical Schools, Brown University, Union Theological Seminary, Emory University, Catholic Charities, the Institute of Meditation and Psychotherapy, Natural Dharma Fellowship, and the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies, and which has recently been adopted by the Mind and Life Institute for its initiative in Ethics, Education, and Human Development.

Professor Makransky's lecture will take place on Friday, September 12th at 7pm at the Nalanda Events Center at 6287 Arapahoe Ave. It is free and open to the public. His lecture is being held in conjunction withe the Uberoi Foundation's Annual Experts Meeting taking place on the Naropa campus that weekend.
