Visiting Artist Lecture: Sue Pearson
Start Date: 9/10/2013Start Time: 6:30 PM
End Date: 9/10/2013End Time: 8:00 PM
Event Description
Sue Pearson is a printmaker and descendant of the mutineers of the HMS Bounty and the Tahitian women who settled on Pitcairn Island, and later Norfolk Island. Sue Pearson’s work is an exploration of her native Norfolk Island’s natural and political environments, and her people’s cultural heritage, history, and future aspirations.
Pearson uses trans-Pasifika symbols and motifs to illuminate the cultural connections that exist between Norfolk Islanders, Tahitians, Pitcairn Islanders, and other peoples in the wider Pacific—connections that have for many years been overshadowed by the Island’s political links with Australia.
Pearson continues an international fine art practice, exhibiting her work from Norfolk to the wider Pacific, the USA, France and Estonia while in parallel producing a range of functional works such as clothing and house wares.
