FI 2013: Adding Service-Learning to Your Teaching Portfolio: Why, What and How-to
Start Date: 8/22/2013Start Time: 2:30 PM
End Date: 8/22/2013End Time: 4:00 PM
Event Description:

Adding Service-Learning to Your Teaching Portfolio: Why, What and How-to
Christine Macdonald, Senior Instructor, Program for Writing and Rhetoric

(This workshop is part of the Fall Intensive 2013)

Should you tackle teaching a service-learning course while you are a graduate student?  And what is service-learning anyway?  After a brief definition of this (often) time-consuming but rewarding approach to teaching, and an overview of some of the pros and cons of having it round-out your teaching experience for the job market, the majority of the session will focus on how to set up a service-learning course.  Bring descriptions of 1-2 of your favorite assignments for interactive break-out discussions to brainstorm how you might adapt them for a service-learning course.
