Event Description:

Engaging Students in Class
Jennifer L. Cullison, Lead 2013-14, History

(This workshop is part of the Fall Intensive 2013)

If you engage your students in your class, they will participate, learn more, and like the class all the more.  So, how do you do that, when you have so much content, so little class time and our students have endless personalities and learning styles?  The first step:  learn their names QUICKLY and address them by their names regularly.  The second step:  build a strong instructor-student relationships and make sure each student knows you care about his/her progress inside and outside of class.  The final step:  create a curriculum that responds to the people in your room - their multiple personalities and learning styles.  In this workshop you will learn and share strategies for each of these steps so that in every class you teach you are fostering urgent desire to participate and learn.
