Event Description
One of the most exciting and ambitious NASA missions will land on Mars on August 5th at 11pm MST. The timing of Curiosity’s landing is much too late for many of us. Fiske Planetarium will be offering a FREE public event on Monday, August 6th, at 7pm. This program will feature a talk by CU scientist Dr. David Brain and the debut of some of the first images to be taken by this mars rover. Curiosity is the largest unmanned rover ever sent beyond Earth. It is roughly the size of a Volkswagen Bug and weighs about a ton. Many dub this as the SUV of rovers. Curiosity will land in Gale crater. This crater will offer a wide variety of terrain and geology for the rover to investigate. The goal of the Curiosity rover is to continue the search for water and the signs that Mars may have had environments suitable for life.
The program is FREE. Doors open at 6:30pm with the show starting at 7pm. Tickets and seating are first come, first serve. For more information and/or questions about the show please call our office at 303-492-5002 or check our website at fiske.colorado.edu. |
