Event Description:
THE THEORETICAL ADVANCED STUDY INSTITUTE IN ELEMENTARY PARTICLE PHYSICS at The University of Colorado, Boulder Presents a Public Lecture by Elizabeth Simmons Professor of Physics Michigan State University on "The Year of the Higgs Boson"

In the year since the European Center for Nuclear Research (CERN) dramatically announced the discovery of a new particle, the high-energy physics world has been all abuzz. All indications are that the newcomer is a Higgs Boson, a particle at the heart of mass in our universe. Elizabeth H. Simmons, a particle physicist who studies the origin of mass will put the Higgs search in context, explain the new results, and discuss the implications for particle physics... and beyond. Questions strongly encouraged!
