 | Organizational Change
Sustainable Practices program at CU-Boulder offers a non-credit Certificate in Sustainability Management. This course provides insights and information about the process of creating deep and lasting institutional change for sustainability. Students will learn the process of change at the human, departmental, and organizational levels. This course is geared toward future leaders of medium to large organizations assigned the task of making their organization a sustainable organization. Topics covered include: types of change, laying the foundation for change, appreciative change, relationship building, leadership, policy development, sustainable characteristics of organizations, recognizing disincentives, benchmarking, community-based social marketing, community partnerships, dealing with resistance, and creating buy-in.
This is a TERM BASED ONLINE COURSE. Cost $355. Pre-registration required.

The exhibit the invisible connectedness of things created by internationally recognized visual artist Kim Abeles and co-presented by the University of Colorado Museum of Natural History and EcoArts Connections will be on display Tuesday Jan. 17 – Monday Oct. 1, 2012.
The exhibit is inspired by the spectacular structure, colors and longevity of lichens and the fact that they are bio-monitors of pollution. With a 16’ video wall, photos, paintings, puzzles, sculpture, “smog collector" plates and more, the exhibit explores the effects that transportation choices have on Boulder’s air quality. The project has been created in collaboration with atmospheric scientists, emissions specialists, lichenologists, transportation professionals and middle school students, among others. This exhibit is commissioned by EcoArts Connections (EAC) and co-presented by the University of Colorado Museum of Natural History and EAC in collaboration with Envirotest - Air Care Colorado, Manhattan Middle School and Spark: UCAR Science Education. |

Drawing on Harold Bloom's seminal work of poetic criticism, "The Anxiety of Influence," to interpret the significant role that "influence" plays within the global history, culture, and tradition of ceramics, this exhibition will present Modern and Contemporary Ceramics as well as selected historic works from the CU Art Museum's permanent collection. The exhibition will feature major pieces by Scott Chamberlin, Rick Dillingham, Arthur Gonzalez, Wayne Higby, Anne Kraus, Graham Marks, Jim Melchert, Linda Sikora, Suo Tan, Peter Voulkos, Betty Woodman and many others. The exhibition will also include works on paper by noted ceramic artists such as Robert Arneson and Ken Price to further explore the conceptual, aesthetic, and methodological influences on Modern and Contemporary ceramic artists. While many previous exhibitions have chronicled the decorative and technological influences of various ceramic traditions as they travelled across Eastern and Western cultures, this exhibition is the first to apply Bloom's complicated post-Freudian theories of "influence" to the realm of ceramics and its poetics, in order to construct a more complex understanding of the medium.

 | CU-BOULDER to observe transit of Venus

Join the University of Colorado Boulder for a rare opportunity to witness Venus crossing directly between the Earth and the sun. Fiske Planetarium and the Sommers-Bausch Observatory will provide live presentations and web feeds of this rare astronomical event, along with many space-science activities. The events are free and open to the public and will include telescopes to safely observe the sun, activities for kids and talks by astronomers and local space scientists.
This will be the last time in the 21st century to see Venus travel across the face of the sun. Transits of Venus occur in pairs, and the first of the next pair will occur in 2117 - more than 100 years from now.
Sommers-Bausch Observatory will have telescopes pointed sunward to enable visitors to safely watch the progress of the Venus transit. Hosts will be on hand to answer questions, and include members of the Boulder Astronomy and Space Society and the CU-Boulder Department of Astrophysical & Planetary Sciences.
Fiske Planetarium opens the theatre at 3:30 p.m. for the Sommers-Bausch Observatory live broadcast of the transit. Scientists from the Department of Astrophysical and Planetary Sciences and Ball Aerospace will give talks beginning at 4:45 p.m. Hands-on activities include a Kepler Spacecraft model and a Lego Orrery system that explains how the Kepler spacecraft finds planets.
Sommers-Bausch Observatory will broadcast three live Ustream video channels of the transit from noon until sunset; go to http://cosmos.colorado.edu/sbo/public/transit_live.html for internet coverage. One channel will show the transit against the visible sunspots of the solar photosphere; another will show the Venus passage in front of the loops, prominences, filaments and possibly flares of the chromosphere, or outer atmosphere of the Sun.

The exhibit the invisible connectedness of things created by internationally recognized visual artist Kim Abeles and co-presented by the University of Colorado Museum of Natural History and EcoArts Connections will be on display Tuesday Jan. 17 – Monday Oct. 1, 2012.
The exhibit is inspired by the spectacular structure, colors and longevity of lichens and the fact that they are bio-monitors of pollution. With a 16’ video wall, photos, paintings, puzzles, sculpture, “smog collector" plates and more, the exhibit explores the effects that transportation choices have on Boulder’s air quality. The project has been created in collaboration with atmospheric scientists, emissions specialists, lichenologists, transportation professionals and middle school students, among others. Drawing on Harold Bloom's seminal work of poetic criticism, "The Anxiety of Influence," to interpret the significant role that "influence" plays within the global history, culture, and tradition of ceramics, this exhibition will present Modern and Contemporary Ceramics as well as selected historic works from the CU Art Museum's permanent collection. The exhibition will feature major pieces by Scott Chamberlin, Rick Dillingham, Arthur Gonzalez, Wayne Higby, Anne Kraus, Graham Marks, Jim Melchert, Linda Sikora, Suo Tan, Peter Voulkos, Betty Woodman and many others. The exhibition will also include works on paper by noted ceramic artists such as Robert Arneson and Ken Price to further explore the conceptual, aesthetic, and methodological influences on Modern and Contemporary ceramic artists. While many previous exhibitions have chronicled the decorative and technological influences of various ceramic traditions as they travelled across Eastern and Western cultures, this exhibition is the first to apply Bloom's complicated post-Freudian theories of "influence" to the realm of ceramics and its poetics, in order to construct a more complex understanding of the medium.

Sustainable Practices program at CU-Boulder offers a non-credit Certificate in Sustainability Management. This online course provides practical examples of how to generate new organizational action models to engage a community and inspire a municipality to develop sustainability initiatives. Topics will include a brief scientific overview of climate change and introduce information on baseline assessment for your municipality. We will discuss applicable indicators for municipalities and factors that sustainability coordinators should incorporate into operational practices. Drawing on Harold Bloom's seminal work of poetic criticism, "The Anxiety of Influence," to interpret the significant role that "influence" plays within the global history, culture, and tradition of ceramics, this exhibition will present Modern and Contemporary Ceramics as well as selected historic works from the CU Art Museum's permanent collection. The exhibition will feature major pieces by Scott Chamberlin, Rick Dillingham, Arthur Gonzalez, Wayne Higby, Anne Kraus, Graham Marks, Jim Melchert, Linda Sikora, Suo Tan, Peter Voulkos, Betty Woodman and many others. The exhibition will also include works on paper by noted ceramic artists such as Robert Arneson and Ken Price to further explore the conceptual, aesthetic, and methodological influences on Modern and Contemporary ceramic artists. While many previous exhibitions have chronicled the decorative and technological influences of various ceramic traditions as they travelled across Eastern and Western cultures, this exhibition is the first to apply Bloom's complicated post-Freudian theories of "influence" to the realm of ceramics and its poetics, in order to construct a more complex understanding of the medium.

Stanford University.
For more than 30 years, physicists have proposed that a particle called the Higgs Boson is responsible for generating the masses of all elementary particles. The Higgs Boson is called by some the ultimate elementary particle, by others, "the God particle." But what is this particle, actually? Why is it so hard to find? Does it really exist? Today, new searches for the Higgs Boson are being carried out at the world's largest particle accelerator, the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva, Switzerland. In this lecture, I will explain the expectations for the Higgs Boson, describe the new experiments, review what we have learned so far, and speculate on how the Higgs Boson might become real. |

The CU Art Museum at the University of Colorado, Boulder is pleased to present 'Field Theory,' a solo exhibition of the work of Michael Theodore. While scientists build mathematical models to better explain the mechanistic structure of the universe, musician and new media artist Michael Theodore builds models in software and hardware to better explore perceptual sensations. Using various media Theodore creates dynamic fields of color, light, and sound that are inspired by observation and experiences of the natural world. In 'Field Theory' Theodore explores the two seemingly contradictory impulses that drive his work as an artist. The first is the need to experience as deeply as possible the continuous flood of sounds, shapes, and colors streaming in from the world around him. The second is the attempt to grab onto some small piece of this magic and distill it into coded instructions that a machine can understand.
Theodore was born and raised in New York City, and joined the faculty of the University of Colorado College of Music in 1998, where he is an Associate Professor of Music Composition and Technology, and the Director of the ATLAS Center for Media, Arts and Performance. Theodore's technology-informed work with sound, visual media or both has been presented across the United States, and in Mexico, Trinidad y Tobago, Greece, Spain, Germany, Sweden, France, Australia, Japan, and China. An active collaborator, Theodore has created a number of pieces with performance artist Michelle Ellsworth, has performed in venues such as the Newport Folk Festival with punk-folk artist Tim Eriksen, and recently released a recording with Glen Whitehead(Psychoangelo/Panauromni) that received airplay on the BBC, and a "Top Ten Classical Music Recordings of 2010" pick from Timeout Chicago. He earned his BA from Amherst College, his MM from Yale School of Music and his PhD from the University of California, San Diego.

The exhibit the invisible connectedness of things created by internationally recognized visual artist Kim Abeles and co-presented by the University of Colorado Museum of Natural History and EcoArts Connections will be on display Tuesday Jan. 17 – Monday Oct. 1, 2012.
The exhibit is inspired by the spectacular structure, colors and longevity of lichens and the fact that they are bio-monitors of pollution. With a 16’ video wall, photos, paintings, puzzles, sculpture, “smog collector" plates and more, the exhibit explores the effects that transportation choices have on Boulder’s air quality. The project has been created in collaboration with atmospheric scientists, emissions specialists, lichenologists, transportation professionals and middle school students, among others. This exhibit is commissioned by EcoArts Connections (EAC) and co-presented by the University of Colorado Museum of Natural History and EAC in collaboration with Envirotest - Air Care Colorado, Manhattan Middle School and Spark: UCAR Science Education. |

In the afternoon, students work in groups on experiential, researched-based projects designed by contributing partners, such as Kroenke Sports Enterprises or Vail Resorts Management. ART/TEKNE: Part 1*
The CU Art Museum at the University of Colorado, Boulder is pleased to present 'Field Theory,' a solo exhibition of the work of Michael Theodore. While scientists build mathematical models to better explain the mechanistic structure of the universe, musician and new media artist Michael Theodore builds models in software and hardware to better explore perceptual sensations. Using various media Theodore creates dynamic fields of color, light, and sound that are inspired by observation and experiences of the natural world. In 'Field Theory' Theodore explores the two seemingly contradictory impulses that drive his work as an artist. The first is the need to experience as deeply as possible the continuous flood of sounds, shapes, and colors streaming in from the world around him. The second is the attempt to grab onto some small piece of this magic and distill it into coded instructions that a machine can understand.
Theodore was born and raised in New York City, and joined the faculty of the University of Colorado College of Music in 1998, where he is an Associate Professor of Music Composition and Technology, and the Director of the ATLAS Center for Media, Arts and Performance. Theodore's technology-informed work with sound, visual media or both has been presented across the United States, and in Mexico, Trinidad y Tobago, Greece, Spain, Germany, Sweden, France, Australia, Japan, and China. An active collaborator, Theodore has created a number of pieces with performance artist Michelle Ellsworth, has performed in venues such as the Newport Folk Festival with punk-folk artist Tim Eriksen, and recently released a recording with Glen Whitehead(Psychoangelo/Panauromni) that received airplay on the BBC, and a "Top Ten Classical Music Recordings of 2010" pick from Timeout Chicago. He earned his BA from Amherst College, his MM from Yale School of Music and his PhD from the University of California, San Diego.

ART/TEKNE will feature solo-exhibitions of internationally known Colorado new media artists whose work charts new relationships between technology, aesthetics, and society.

Yakes, MD, the CU Art Museum benefactors and members, as well as by the CU Boulder Student Arts and Cultural Enrichment (ACE) fees. Drawing on Harold Bloom's seminal work of poetic criticism, "The Anxiety of Influence," to interpret the significant role that "influence" plays within the global history, culture, and tradition of ceramics, this exhibition will present Modern and Contemporary Ceramics as well as selected historic works from the CU Art Museum's permanent collection. The exhibition will feature major pieces by Scott Chamberlin, Rick Dillingham, Arthur Gonzalez, Wayne Higby, Anne Kraus, Graham Marks, Jim Melchert, Linda Sikora, Suo Tan, Peter Voulkos, Betty Woodman and many others. The exhibition will also include works on paper by noted ceramic artists such as Robert Arneson and Ken Price to further explore the conceptual, aesthetic, and methodological influences on Modern and Contemporary ceramic artists. While many previous exhibitions have chronicled the decorative and technological influences of various ceramic traditions as they travelled across Eastern and Western cultures, this exhibition is the first to apply Bloom's complicated post-Freudian theories of "influence" to the realm of ceramics and its poetics, in order to construct a more complex understanding of the medium.

While scientists build mathematical models to better explain the mechanistic structure of the universe, musician and new media artist Michael Theodore builds models in software and hardware to better explore perceptual sensations. Using various media Theodore creates dynamic fields of color, light, and sound that are inspired by observation and experiences of the natural world. In 'Field Theory' Theodore explores the two seemingly contradictory impulses that drive his work as an artist. The first is the need to experience as deeply as possible the continuous flood of sounds, shapes, and colors streaming in from the world around him. The second is the attempt to grab onto some small piece of this magic and distill it into coded instructions that a machine can understand.
Theodore was born and raised in New York City, and joined the faculty of the University of Colorado College of Music in 1998, where he is an Associate Professor of Music Composition and Technology, and the Director of the ATLAS Center for Media, Arts and Performance. Theodore's technology-informed work with sound, visual media or both has been presented across the United States, and in Mexico, Trinidad y Tobago, Greece, Spain, Germany, Sweden, France, Australia, Japan, and China. An active collaborator, Theodore has created a number of pieces with performance artist Michelle Ellsworth, has performed in venues such as the Newport Folk Festival with punk-folk artist Tim Eriksen, and recently released a recording with Glen Whitehead(Psychoangelo/Panauromni) that received airplay on the BBC, and a "Top Ten Classical Music Recordings of 2010" pick from Timeout Chicago. He earned his BA from Amherst College, his MM from Yale School of Music and his PhD from the University of California, San Diego.

ART/TEKNE will feature solo-exhibitions of internationally known Colorado new media artists whose work charts new relationships between technology, aesthetics, and society.

Drawing on Harold Bloom's seminal work of poetic criticism, "The Anxiety of Influence," to interpret the significant role that "influence" plays within the global history, culture, and tradition of ceramics, this exhibition will present Modern and Contemporary Ceramics as well as selected historic works from the CU Art Museum's permanent collection. The exhibition will feature major pieces by Scott Chamberlin, Rick Dillingham, Arthur Gonzalez, Wayne Higby, Anne Kraus, Graham Marks, Jim Melchert, Linda Sikora, Suo Tan, Peter Voulkos, Betty Woodman and many others. The exhibition will also include works on paper by noted ceramic artists such as Robert Arneson and Ken Price to further explore the conceptual, aesthetic, and methodological influences on Modern and Contemporary ceramic artists. While many previous exhibitions have chronicled the decorative and technological influences of various ceramic traditions as they travelled across Eastern and Western cultures, this exhibition is the first to apply Bloom's complicated post-Freudian theories of "influence" to the realm of ceramics and its poetics, in order to construct a more complex understanding of the medium.

The exhibit is inspired by the spectacular structure, colors and longevity of lichens and the fact that they are bio-monitors of pollution. With a 16’ video wall, photos, paintings, puzzles, sculpture, “smog collector" plates and more, the exhibit explores the effects that transportation choices have on Boulder’s air quality. The project has been created in collaboration with atmospheric scientists, emissions specialists, lichenologists, transportation professionals and middle school students, among others. This exhibit is commissioned by EcoArts Connections (EAC) and co-presented by the University of Colorado Museum of Natural History and EAC in collaboration with Envirotest - Air Care Colorado, Manhattan Middle School and Spark: UCAR Science Education. |

Please join us on Monday, June 25th in ATLAS 100 for a special ATLAS Speaker Series featuring CU Faculty members and artists Michael Theodore and Mark Amerika. Both artists create work that focuses on the interaction of technology, art, and humanity. During the talk from 4:00 to 4:45pm, they will discuss their current projects and upcoming exhibitions. Following the talk, there will be a casual reception in the ATLAS Lobby. At 5:30pm, Michael Theodore will give a guided tour of his solo exhibition, ‘Michael Theodore: Field Theory’ at the CU Art Museum. This event is free and open to the public.

The exhibit is inspired by the spectacular structure, colors and longevity of lichens and the fact that they are bio-monitors of pollution. With a 16’ video wall, photos, paintings, puzzles, sculpture, “smog collector" plates and more, the exhibit explores the effects that transportation choices have on Boulder’s air quality. The project has been created in collaboration with atmospheric scientists, emissions specialists, lichenologists, transportation professionals and middle school students, among others. This exhibit is commissioned by EcoArts Connections (EAC) and co-presented by the University of Colorado Museum of Natural History and EAC in collaboration with Envirotest - Air Care Colorado, Manhattan Middle School and Spark: UCAR Science Education. |

The CU Art Museum at the University of Colorado, Boulder is pleased to present 'Field Theory,' a solo exhibition of the work of Michael Theodore. While scientists build mathematical models to better explain the mechanistic structure of the universe, musician and new media artist Michael Theodore builds models in software and hardware to better explore perceptual sensations. Using various media Theodore creates dynamic fields of color, light, and sound that are inspired by observation and experiences of the natural world. In 'Field Theory' Theodore explores the two seemingly contradictory impulses that drive his work as an artist. The first is the need to experience as deeply as possible the continuous flood of sounds, shapes, and colors streaming in from the world around him. The second is the attempt to grab onto some small piece of this magic and distill it into coded instructions that a machine can understand.
Theodore was born and raised in New York City, and joined the faculty of the University of Colorado College of Music in 1998, where he is an Associate Professor of Music Composition and Technology, and the Director of the ATLAS Center for Media, Arts and Performance. Theodore's technology-informed work with sound, visual media or both has been presented across the United States, and in Mexico, Trinidad y Tobago, Greece, Spain, Germany, Sweden, France, Australia, Japan, and China. An active collaborator, Theodore has created a number of pieces with performance artist Michelle Ellsworth, has performed in venues such as the Newport Folk Festival with punk-folk artist Tim Eriksen, and recently released a recording with Glen Whitehead(Psychoangelo/Panauromni) that received airplay on the BBC, and a "Top Ten Classical Music Recordings of 2010" pick from Timeout Chicago. He earned his BA from Amherst College, his MM from Yale School of Music and his PhD from the University of California, San Diego.

An active collaborator, Theodore has created a number of pieces with performance artist Michelle Ellsworth, has performed in venues such as the Newport Folk Festival with punk-folk artist Tim Eriksen, and recently released a recording with Glen Whitehead(Psychoangelo/Panauromni) that received airplay on the BBC, and a "Top Ten Classical Music Recordings of 2010" pick from Timeout Chicago. He earned his BA from Amherst College, his MM from Yale School of Music and his PhD from the University of California, San Diego.
*The ART/TEKNE series, curated by Lisa Tamiris Becker, Director, CU Art Museum, is a three-part series planned for the summers of 2012-2014. ART/TEKNE will feature solo-exhibitions of internationally known Colorado new media artists whose work charts new relationships between technology, aesthetics, and society.

Yakes, MD, the CU Art Museum benefactors and members, as well as by the CU Boulder Student Arts and Cultural Enrichment (ACE) fees. | | Exhibition: “the invisible connectedness of things”

The exhibit the invisible connectedness of things created by internationally recognized visual artist Kim Abeles and co-presented by the University of Colorado Museum of Natural History and EcoArts Connections will be on display Tuesday Jan. 17 – Monday Oct. 1, 2012.
The exhibit is inspired by the spectacular structure, colors and longevity of lichens and the fact that they are bio-monitors of pollution. With a 16’ video wall, photos, paintings, puzzles, sculpture, “smog collector" plates and more, the exhibit explores the effects that transportation choices have on Boulder’s air quality. The project has been created in collaboration with atmospheric scientists, emissions specialists, lichenologists, transportation professionals and middle school students, among others. This exhibit is commissioned by EcoArts Connections (EAC) and co-presented by the University of Colorado Museum of Natural History and EAC in collaboration with Envirotest - Air Care Colorado, Manhattan Middle School and Spark: UCAR Science Education. |

ART/TEKNE: Part 1*
The CU Art Museum at the University of Colorado, Boulder is pleased to present 'Field Theory,' a solo exhibition of the work of Michael Theodore. While scientists build mathematical models to better explain the mechanistic structure of the universe, musician and new media artist Michael Theodore builds models in software and hardware to better explore perceptual sensations. Using various media Theodore creates dynamic fields of color, light, and sound that are inspired by observation and experiences of the natural world. In 'Field Theory' Theodore explores the two seemingly contradictory impulses that drive his work as an artist. The first is the need to experience as deeply as possible the continuous flood of sounds, shapes, and colors streaming in from the world around him. The second is the attempt to grab onto some small piece of this magic and distill it into coded instructions that a machine can understand.
Theodore was born and raised in New York City, and joined the faculty of the University of Colorado College of Music in 1998, where he is an Associate Professor of Music Composition and Technology, and the Director of the ATLAS Center for Media, Arts and Performance. Theodore's technology-informed work with sound, visual media or both has been presented across the United States, and in Mexico, Trinidad y Tobago, Greece, Spain, Germany, Sweden, France, Australia, Japan, and China.
