| On-Campus Bone Marrow Donor Registration to Support Christian Ortiz-Torres |

Event Description
A member of our CU family is need, and you can help by joining the Bone Marrow Donor Registry (Be the Match) at one of two on-campus registration sessions or at any Bonfils Blood Center location.
If you are
near campus, get registered at an on-site bone marrow registration in
the Engineering Center lobby on Tuesday May 22nd from 1-5 pm and
Thursday, May 24th from 9 am – 1 pm. Registration requires completing a
consent form and providing a sample of cells by swabbing the inside of
your cheeks. You can also go to a Bonfils Blood Center location (http://www.bonfils.org/index.cfm/contact-us/donor-center-directory), if you cannot come to the on-site registration.
Christian Ortiz-Torres, an outstanding aerospace engineering major (junior), is in need of a bone marrow transplant. Christian has been fighting leukemia since the 9th grade, and underwent treatment for 3 years. It was under control until about 1 ½ years ago, when the leukemia returned in a more serious form. He has been undergoing additional treatment, but his doctor says that he must have a bone marrow transplant to beat it. He is scheduled to have surgery in June.
Christian has not been successful at finding a very good match from the Bone Marrow Donor Registry. Christian is Hispanic, and there is a higher probability that someone from his ethnic background would be a better match. However, EVERYONE is encouraged to participate, regardless of your ethnicity, and regardless of whether you are even a part of the CU-Boulder community.
The registration in the Engineering Center lobby is open to everyone over 18 (and under 61). Feel free to invite your co-workers, friends, and family.
