: "A Peruvian Inca in Emperor Showa's Court," a brown bag event featuring a talk by Miriam Kingsberg, Assistant Professor, Department of History. In 1958, Japan undertook its first archaeological excavation outside Asia. Sponsored by one of the nation's leading newspapers, the Scientific Expedition to Nuclear America made path-breaking contributions to scholarly understanding of the origins of civilization in Peru. This talk will explore the ways in which archaeologists and the media collaborated to transform the unlikely topic of pre-Columbian history into an enduring public obsession.Location:CAS Conference Room, CAS (formerly IBS 3), 1424 Broadway, CU-Boulder campus.
