Boulder Philharmonic Season Finale: The Pines of Rome
Start Date: 4/22/2017Start Time: 7:30 PM
End Date: 4/22/2017End Time: 9:30 PM
Event Description:
The spirit of Italy permeates our season finale with influences from the Renaissance to today. Concertmaster and violinist Charles Wetherbee is joined by his CU colleague and guitarist Nicolò Spera for the last of our season’s pairings: a world premiere by British composer Stephen Goss titled Invisible Cities, based on Italo Calvino’s novel of the same name. Orchestral favorites from opera titans Verdi and Puccini prepare the way for the surround-sound splendor of Respighi’s Pines of Rome, one of the most sonically overwhelming works in all of music.

The concert will feature the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra and Conductor Michael Butterman. The "Pines of Rome" program will include the following:

Monumentum pro Gesualdo, Stravinsky
Four original versions of Boccherini’s Return of the Nightwatch from Madrid, Berio
Invisible Cities, Goss
Overture to Nabucco, Verdi
The Chrysanthemums, Puccini
The Pines of Rome, Respighi
