End Date: 4/13/2013End Time: 11:30 AM
Event Description
The Department of English's Literary Brunch Series provides once-a-month informal seminars to the Boulder campus and public led by major scholars of literature. Please come and join us for a morning of literature and the brunch is on us! This month Associate Professor John-Michael Rivera will talk about the first encyclopedia of the New World, the Florentine Codex, which was created and curated by the first ethnographer of the New World in the 16th century, Bernardino de Sahagun. Professor Rivera will locate this work within encyclopedic history and show slides from this beautifully illustrated and rare text. He will frame his discussion by reading creative works and poetry that have developed from his scholarly work on the encyclopedia.
