Event Description On Thursday January 17 Dr. Claudia Koonz, Professor Emeritus at Duke University, will present "Islamophobia in Three Shapes: the Muslim Headscarf in France, Britain, and Germany."
Please come to Hellems 252 to hear Dr Koonz present work related to her recent transnational study of
the debates about the Muslim headscarf in France, Britain, and Germany.
Dr Koonz's interests are in 20th Century German History, Women’s History, and
genocide. Her book Mothers in the Fatherland received several awards: as
a finalist for the National Book Award non-fiction nomination, 1987; The
Boston Globe-Winship Book of the Year Award, 1987; The Berkshire
Conference 1987 Book Award; and it was one of the New York Times and
Liberation’s (Paris) best 100 books of 1987 and 1990, respectively. Her
book, The Nazi Conscience (2003), has been translated into Spanish,
Japanese, and Russian. |
